Pirate Fuse Beads: 10+ Models to Set Sail and Hunt for Treasure

Ahoy, little shipmates! This week in the craft room we’re casting off the lines and heading for faraway seas, buried treasure and just-a-little-bit-spooky skulls. My kids and I are mad about pirates — it’s the perfect fuse-bead theme, packed with deep black, woody brown and bold splashes of red. I’ve gathered more than ten designs for you, mixing genuine creations found around the web with a few homemade patterns to follow peg by peg. Raise the flag, we’re setting sail!

Run up the black flag: skulls and the Jolly Roger

You simply can’t go treasure hunting without the famous Jolly Roger! This red-bandana skull is a real fuse-bead gem — the shading on the scarf and the grin of the skull are seriously impressive. One for slightly more patient crafters.

Fancy something gentler? This little green skull fits on a single pegboard and comes together in ten minutes flat — ideal for your youngest deckhands.

And to fly proudly at the top of the mast, here’s my homemade skull-and-crossbones flag pattern: black, white, and you’re done.

All aboard: our buccaneers’ ships

The showstopper is, of course, the ship. This three-dimensional galleon — sails billowing and black flag snapping in the wind — is a jaw-dropping build, a lovely challenge for expert hands (grab a grown-up to assemble the panels!).

Far more beginner-friendly, this pretty sailboat in shades of blue works flat on a large square pegboard: perfect for a first voyage without capsizing.

“X” marks the spot: treasure, maps and messages in a bottle

A pirate with no loot? Never! This chunky 3D treasure chest, with its golden lock, hides a little secret — it’s a real coin bank for stashing your spare change.

To find the loot you’ll need a good map: here’s my homemade treasure-island pattern, dotted trail and all, with the classic red “X” marking the spot.

And since a secret note always travels better across the waves, why not tuck a little message in a bottle in between two projects?

The crew and every good deckhand’s kit

No self-respecting captain sails without a chatty parrot on the shoulder! This green-and-blue parrot pattern is a proper carnival of colour, and its grid converts straight into beads: one square on the chart, one bead.

Round off the outfit with my last three homemade patterns: a sturdy ship’s anchor, a pair of crossed cutlasses for duels on deck, and a compass so you never lose your bearings.
