Ahoy there, mateys! Today we’re hoisting the black flag and setting sail on a fuse bead treasure hunt. I dug through my inspiration folders (and borrowed a few ideas from fellow crafty pirates) to bring you a collection of 12+ pirate designs: skulls that are more silly than scary, ships ready to set sail, cheeky mermaids and plenty of glittering loot. Whether you’re beading with the kids on a rainy afternoon or decorating a little sea-wolf’s bedroom, you’ll find plenty to fill your pegboard all week long. Come on, mateys — the treasure hunt starts now!
Classic pirate characters, the terror of the seven seas
Let’s start strong with the essentials: a colourful bandana-wearing skull, fierce yet friendly, and a tiny bead captain with his hat firmly on. That’s your set dressing sorted before you even set sail.

The treasure and its loot
No self-respecting pirate sails without their loot! Here’s a chest that doubles as an actual coin bank (perfect for saving up pocket money), plus a simple homemade grid for a gold doubloon that’s easy enough for younger beaders to follow.

At sea: ships and creatures from the deep
You can’t talk pirates without a proper ship cutting through the waves! I spotted a gorgeous 3D build, plus a much simpler version for beginners and little hands. And since the sea isn’t just about ships, I also fell for a playful octopus and a sneaky mermaid, both great for giving your pirate theme an underwater twist. If you love sailing in beads, you’ll also enjoy our previous pirate round-up, packed with even more boarding-party ideas.

Weapons and the captain’s flag
To wrap things up, two designs for aspiring captains: a pair of crossed cutlasses that look fantastic, and a homemade Jolly Roger flag, skull and crossbones included — the grid is simple enough that one peg always equals one bead. And if travelling inspires you as much as sailing does, take a peek at our round-the-world landmarks round-up to keep the adventure going.

There you go, mateys — the treasure is in your hands now! Grab your pegboards, sort your beads by colour (that’s half the fun, let’s be honest) and dive into your favourite design. Feel free to mix and match a few ideas from this list to create your very own beaded treasure map. Happy ironing, and long live your black flag!
