Oh, fruit! There’s nothing like it for bringing a splash of summer to your fuse bead creations all year round. In our house it’s the one theme everybody agrees on: the colours pop, the shapes are lovely and round, and you can dive in even as a total beginner. Today I’ve rounded up more than a dozen juicy designs for you — a few gems found around the web, plus three little homemade grids to follow one square at a time. Grab your red, yellow and green beads, and let’s craft the whole fruit bowl together!

The summer superstars

It’s hard to start anywhere but with the crowd-pleasers: the ones that win the kids over at first glance and come together in a single afternoon.

Watermelon, the beginner’s favourite

Honestly, if you could only make one, this would be it. The watermelon slice, with its pink-to-green fade and little black seeds, is perfect for a first project: only a handful of colours, a really simple layout and a result that looks fab. I love this version worked up in several sizes. Source: Mes Perles à Repasser.

And if you’d rather have the whole watermelon than a slice, this cheerful round version makes a lovely coaster for the table. Source: One Little Project.

Strawberry, cute as can be

The strawberry is sweetness itself: a red heart, a few yellow dots for the seeds and a little green leaf on top. It fits on a classic square pegboard and works endlessly — as a keyring, a fridge magnet or a brooch. Source: Mes Perles à Repasser.

Pineapple, for a holiday feel

With its checkered yellow body and green tuft, the pineapple instantly adds an exotic touch. Here’s a nice simple grid to follow, one square equals one bead: ideal for showing the kids how to read a pattern before they start picking colours. Source: Je suis vernie.

A little basket full of colour

Just look at this little basket: a strawberry, a round kiwi, a watermelon slice and a pineapple all together — and there you go, the whole summer fits in your hand! The kiwi, with its brown outline and green centre flecked with white, is a slightly trickier make but oh so satisfying. A big thank you to ManzaBull’ for this lovely foursome. Source: ManzaBull’.

This cheerful tropical mix brings together pineapples, watermelon slices, hibiscus flowers and colourful parrots: perfect for decorating a summer birthday party or a corner of a bedroom. Keep the fruit, of course, and cherry-pick the rest as the mood takes you. Source: Je suis vernie.

My favourites have to be the little fruit picks popped into the glasses and the matching coasters: just right for a snack with friends or an alcohol-free apéro out on the terrace. Thanks again to Je suis vernie for the inspiration.

Our homemade grids to follow

To round out your basket, I’ve put together three homemade grids, all nice and simple, to recreate bead by bead. Keep them in front of you and off you go!

Two bright red cherries, their stalks meeting at a point and a little leaf: a quick and super satisfying make. Add a paler bead to each cherry for a glossy highlight.

Over to you!

So, which fruit will you bead first? The best thing about fuse beads is that you can try again and again without breaking the bank, and turn every make into a little gift. Settle in at the table, tip the beads out in the middle, and let the kids pick the colours — I promise you a moment as joyful as it is colourful. And do send me your creations, I love seeing them!
