Dinosaur Fuse Beads: 12+ Prehistoric Designs to Bead With the Kids

Some themes never go out of style, and dinosaurs are absolutely one of them. In my house, the moment the bead tub comes out and someone whispers “T-Rex”, the kids come thundering in! And honestly, I get it — these prehistoric giants have such bold, instantly recognisable shapes that they were practically made for fuse beads. I have rounded up more than a dozen designs from around the web — plus one little homemade grid — for a proper Jurassic craft afternoon. Grab your explorer’s hat: we are going on a dino hunt!

Cretaceous superstar: the mighty T-Rex

You simply cannot start a prehistoric line-up without him — the tyrannosaurus, undisputed king of the playground. That big head, those famously tiny arms (go on, admit they make you smile) and a mouth full of teeth make him a wonderfully satisfying make. I would go for a punchy green or orange to really make him pop.

Gentle plant-eating giants

Time for the peaceful grazers! The three-horned triceratops is a firm favourite here — that big frill gives you a lovely surface to play with colour blends. Such a treat to bead.

Next comes my personal favourite: the long-necked brontosaurus. It is the ideal beginner project, because that lovely rounded shape happily forgives a wonky row or two. Nobody is measuring, I promise!

Take to the skies: flying reptiles

A prehistoric sky just would not be the same without a pterodactyl. Those big outstretched wings always look brilliant once they are up on the shelf. Beader’s tip: hang yours on a length of thread so it looks like it is gliding over the kids’ desk.

A whole band of colourful dinos

Who says dinosaurs have to be grey and serious? I love this cheerful crew in sherbet shades — bubblegum pink, turquoise, chick yellow. More than enough to build a whole prehistoric menagerie and fill several beading sessions together.
