Some themes just make kids’ eyes sparkle — and around here, unicorns sit right at the top of the list! Rainbow manes, a little golden horn, dreamy pastel coats: they’re the perfect excuse to tip out every colourful bead you own and spend a whole afternoon crafting. I’ve gathered more than ten unicorn designs spotted here and there, from the simplest pony to a spirited winged unicorn, along with a handful of homemade grids to round out the scene. Grab a pegboard and let’s dive in!
Our unicorn favourites
Let’s start with the ones that stole our hearts. This winged unicorn, all soft blue and white against a little starry sky, has an irresistibly dreamy feel — perfect for framing above a child’s bed.

After something with even more sparkle? This purple pony-unicorn, dotted with glitter beads, catches the light the moment you hang it in a window. A proper little gem.

Easy unicorns for beginners
You don’t have to be a pro to get started! This little white unicorn with a rainbow mane comes together in no time — ideal for a first make with younger crafters, no frustration in sight.

A step up on the style front, this graphic “tokidoki”-style unicorn plays with bold contrast and a pretty colourful horn. A design that older kids especially love.

Little unicorns to give: keyrings and charms
Unicorns are made for sharing! As keyrings, they clip straight onto a backpack or pencil case and never fail to charm — just in time for back to school. Here, two mini unicorns and a rainbow ready to gift.

And if you like following the build row by row, this purple unicorn photographed on its pegboard shows exactly how the beads sit before the iron does its magic.

Rainbow ponies and matching little motifs
You can’t talk unicorns without a big splash of colour! This rainbow pony is bursting with cheer — the kind of design that happily empties every bead pot you have.

To dress up your unicorns, I put together three simple homemade grids to copy: a rainbow, a shooting star and a heart. Perfect for filling in the rows and building a lovely little scene around your heroine.

A grid to follow step by step
Prefer to work from a set pattern? This pastel grid follows square by square: one square = one bead, as always. Print it out, keep it beside your board and simply let it guide you.

And if you’re more of a video person, this gentle tutorial walks you through from the very first row to the ironing:

Over to you!
That’s plenty to fill a lovely rainy afternoon. The secret to a great unicorn? Be bold with colour, mix your pastels, and don’t be shy about adding a touch of gold to the horn. Show me what you make — I can’t wait to see a whole parade of little unicorns. Happy beading, and see you very soon!
