Dinosaurs in Fuse Beads: Our Favourite Prehistoric Selection

The fuse bead box comes out at least once a week in our house — and right now, we are deep in our dinosaur era! My kids are obsessed with T-Rex, long necks and every scaly beast in between. So I have pulled together our favourite dinosaur designs in Hama beads: real creations to spark ideas, plus a few simple homemade grids you can follow bead by bead. Grab your pegboards, we are going prehistoric!

T-Rex, the prehistoric superstar

There is really no other place to start than with the king of the dinosaurs. The T-Rex has it all: a big head, those funny little arms, and a shape even the youngest crafters spot in a heartbeat. Best of all, it works in absolutely every colour hiding in your bead pot.

See what I mean? From bright orange to gentle green, it is the very same dinosaur that takes on a whole new personality depending on the beads you pick. Time for a change of pace with the easy-going herbivores. That long neck is a joy to build: you line the beads up one by one and watch it grow before your eyes. It is the go-to design when you want something that looks impressively big without the fuss.

My mum-tested tip: for the neck, let your child pick a gradient of blues. The effect is stunning and it keeps them busy for a good while — a win-win.

Plates and spikes: the stegosaurus and friends

When it comes to decor, the plated and spiky dinosaurs are my favourites: those rows of yellow or orange beads along the back instantly earn their spot on a shelf.

Good to know: this stegosaurus grid converts straight from a cross-stitch chart — one square = one bead, nothing more. A great way to give your old embroidery patterns a second life as bead designs.

Up in the sky: the pterodactyl

Who said dinosaurs had to stay on the ground? With its wide open wings, the pterodactyl makes a striking piece, perfect to hang in a window so you can watch it catch the light.

And to wrap up, a little egg to hatch

For toddlers or a very first project, nothing beats a nice round dinosaur egg. Few beads, a guaranteed result, and the perfect excuse to wonder out loud whether a baby dino might just hatch out of it…
