With Halloween just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to dig out the darkest beads in the box! It’s become a real tradition for us: every year we revisit our favorite designs, dream up new ones, and share our current picks for home decor that has just the right amount of spook, without ever being truly scary. Here are our favorite shivery picks of the season, to bead on your own or with the kids.

Let’s start gently, with the genre’s usual suspects: a slightly mischievous ghost, a bat with its wings fully spread, a simple little spider, and a black cat with a mischievous look. These are beginner-friendly patterns, perfect for a first Halloween beading session with younger kids, and easy to string onto a garland or hang in a window.

Ready for more? Here’s a selection designed to dress up a whole room: our little haunted house glowing in the night, a bubbling witch’s cauldron, a pointed hat, a goofy skull, and a colorful piece of candy corn. Mix them on a shelf or hang them in a window for a wonderfully spooky effect all together.
Our tips for a smooth session
To keep things running smoothly, sort out all the colors you’ll need into small bowls first — it saves time hunting for beads, and lets kids dive straight into the simplest patterns on their own. Also remember to let each piece cool down flat before handling it: freshly ironed beads are still soft and can warp easily. Finally, don’t hesitate to string several small designs onto one thread to make a fully homemade Halloween garland.
A little autumn ritual
At home, Halloween has become an appointment the kids look forward to almost as much as Christmas decorating. As soon as the leaves start falling, out comes the bead box, the pegboards spread across the kitchen table, and everyone picks their pattern for the day. It’s a chance to talk about colors, count beads together, and most of all enjoy a calm little workshop before the excitement of October 31st kicks in. What I love most about fuse beads is that they work for every skill level: little ones have fun with the simple shapes while the older kids tackle more elaborate designs, and everyone goes home with a little decoration to hang up on the big day.
If you’re just starting out, pick one easy pattern first to get comfortable with ironing, then move on to the more colorful designs once you feel ready. What matters most is enjoying the making, whatever the final result looks like.
