With its big violet and blue wings dotted in pale yellow, this little butterfly is one of my favourite patterns to hand the kids: it’s perfectly symmetrical, so two of you can even build it together, one wing each! Reading the grid couldn’t be simpler: one coloured square, one bead, placed in the same spot on your square pegboard. I’d start with the black body right down the middle, nice and straight, then build one wing at a time from the bottom up, so you don’t knock over beads you’ve already placed. When you iron it, keep a sheet of baking paper on top and press gently in little circles, without lingering too long. Once it’s cool, your butterfly makes a lovely magnet or a hanging decoration for a sunny window, where it can flutter a little in the light.
